Just last weekend I drove out to a dark site, 25 minutes from Townsville and took my Pentax k-5 and an old 50mm f/1.4 lens (that's not very sharp around the edges at all).
After 2 hours of staring at the sky and towards the end taking photos, I got these images below.
Andromeda and Orion's Nebula are heavily, heavily cropped - next time I'll take my 100mm and 200mm prime lenses to get better photos.
There was no mount involved - it was all done using Pentax's O-GPS unit. I'm still learning how to use it properly, but practice makes perfect.
My girlfriend did some extra editing of the LMC and came up with this:

She also did some playing around with one of the Orion shots (the uncropped one not shown here showing his belt) and came up with bits of the flame and horsehead nebulas:

That M42 wide field looks exactly like my first shot of orion. Cool!
