Bought 2 new eyepieces!

Well I've done it..

Procrastinated enough.. was going to get a Vixen LV or a UO HD Ortho as my planetary eyepiece, but I'd always longed for a "set".

I am head over heels in love with my 14mm Meade s4000 UWA, and was always on the lookout for the shorter focal length versions of this fantastic eyepiece.

Well over the weekend, both a 4.7mm s4000 UWA and an 8.8mm s4000 UWA came up for sale (separately).... and I bought them both!

Now all I need is the 6.7mm and i'll have a complete set!

I'm very excited!

They were pretty good value too, at US$150 and US$170 respectively, posted to my door!

now, wheres the review on these fine eyepieces and the jupiter pics and the lawns need mowing and that garden is a mess and those eves need painting and you never make time to take the kids to the park and it has been ages since we have had a candle lit dinner..............

sometimes i worry myself!

Nice Mike, and of course it doesn't mean you can't get the Vixen LV and UO HDs as well... you can never have too many eyepieces, barlows, webcams etc etc.

Very nice Iceman. I am with you, I like complete sets. That is why I am leaning towards a Vixen LVW. Others may be better but I already have a Vixen and they would look so nice side by side.

Thanks guys, yeh i'm keen for a set.. well, I had a set.. my original GSO plossls were a set

But after getting my 14mm Meade UWA I never really used any of the others

Hopefully they'll arrive late this week or early next week.

I've not seen anything on that Panoptic, by the way. How does it perform?

I've only had 1 chance to use it, hence no indepth report.

It's a nice comfortable eyepiece, very easy to view with - no complaints there. However it's not sharp to the edge at f/5, which annoys me a little for what's a fairly expensive eyepiece.

That's interesting and something of a surprise.

I have read plenty of reviews/comments about Pans being good performers vis-a-vis EOFOV ... even in fast scopes (f5) like ours???

I know these things very on whomever you speak to, but that's somewhat unexpected.

How much of the FOV are we talking about?

Spot on, I have noticed the same thing with my 27mm pan.

Maybe it's the combination of relatively large exit pupil and imperfect eyesight.

Though I am yet to find an eyepiece that is truly "sharp to the edge" other than the barlowed 19mm Panoptic.

Could also be coma and nothing to do with the eyepiece.

On eyesight, even in a 12nagt4 I see abberations at the edge of field where others dont

After comaring EPs at Snake Valley, I have to agree. The Panoptics (we tried 15, 19, 35mm) are not the best for edge performance in f6 and the aberrations (stars flaring slightly & false colour) are more apparent at f5. OTOH Daniel's LVW 22mm was sharp to the edge in f5, so a long way ahead of the Panoptics in this respect. On axis the Panos appeared to be sharper though.
