Bluetooth advice please

If God had meant us to rely on technology named after 10th Century Danish Kings, he wouldn't have given us RS-232 cables!

OK, that said, I'd appreciate some help. My limited understanding is that bluetooth-enabled devices would at least recognise that each other exist.

I have a bluetooth-enabled Nokia phone and a Nokia bluetooth earpiece. They talk to each other and the earpiece is recognised as a paired device. But I hate the earpiece and went looking for a better headset. I bought this one:-

http://www.excheap.com/product_info....oducts_id=1925

Here are the specs and instructions:-

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/26...h_Headset.html

Yes, cheap, but it is the only version of this style that I could find.

Instructions are fairly sparse. I charged it up. Then I pressed the side button and, after a few seconds, the LED started blinking blue. Looks good. Then I ask my mobile to search for bluetooth devices - nothing found.

Now this headphone seems to be designed specifically for the Playstation, but I would have thought that it would just been seen as a bluetooth device by the phone.

I don't have any other bluetooth devices at home to test it with.

I'd be pleased to hear your thoughts on what is going wrong here.

Eric

Bluetooth is a signalling method but each manufacturers can change the connectivity to suit their needs. There is a general consensus with mass produced products to use a standard protocol, but there are still manufacturers usually bigger companies that don't always follow the rules. In this one I would say there is a difference in interconnectivity and possibly signalling so it only works for Playstation. The manufacturer can decide what they want to do.

I have the Plantronics Voyager Pro http://www.plantronics.com/au/product/voyager-pro a very nice headset can open the car window at 100kmh and still sounds like I am in the office. But I was disappointed as I wanted to connect it to a regular Bluetooth 2.0 receiver which would enable me to walk around the whole house and more. But as expected from some high quality manufacturers they wish to keep their signalling proprietary and I found out after that I would need to purchase their own Bluetooth dongle which was version 1.0. This would have only allowed me short distance at 300% more the price than the version 2 I bought.

The only advice is to watch carefully the information and should say mobile connectivity.

I guess that is the problem, Malcolm. Sigh. Still it didn't cost much.

I'll keep searching. All these new-fangled over the ear type devices don't suit me. I'm the person who cannot keep ear bud headphones in my ears - they just fall out every time. So I want a full headset with a band to press the speaker against my ear..

Had a quick search and found another one:-

Looks more promising.

Read the instruction, the light should flashing 2 colours alternating to be in pairing mode. May not have held it down long enough. Looks like they are a generic headset as well.

Thanks Martin, but I have something similar that I want to replace. Anything with an "ear bud" just falls off my head - I have a weird shaped earhole obviously!

This doesn't have an earbud in the ear but an loop around the ear.
The part against the ear is flat.

OK, tried again. Yes, hold the button in for several seconds and the LED starts flashing two colours. Then the headphone is in "I'm here" mode and the phone finds it. All working now.

Anyone want a second one I have coming from another supplier Doesn't matter - one for the office/house and one for the car.

I'm still not convinced that any over the ear works for me - except some stereo headphones I have with a nice thick pad to pull against the ear.
