Colour help LMC

Using my 50mm lens on the 450D managed 40 lights, 40 darks on LMC processed with DSS and GIMP.

Not sure about the colour with such a wide angle I have a problem aligning colours in DSS and wonder if this is too blue and whether there is a better method to get colour balancing other than getting the right white balance in the first place.

450D - 55mm
40 Light
40 Darks
60 seconds
ISO1600

I'm no expert, just coming to grips with DSS myself but it looks pretty good to me. Maybe slightly too blue but you have reds etc showing. DSS is not too good to manage colour so I've been told and discovered although I've worked the RGB channels to get it close to normal. I tweak afterwards using Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop or GIMP etc. Being a long time photog and PC user I don't have many issues playing with colour balances but in this case I'm never quite sure what the 'real' colours actually are. Now I've got my system working I'm going to switch to full RAW files shortly (using jpeg at present) which should give more control downstream in the processing.

It does seem too blue to me.
When I'm in doubt, I usually look on the net for a comparison image to work off.
You got some beaut colour in the stars!

I had tried to modify the image further, I think the camera is un-modded and is difficult to alter some colours. I may be seeing some light pollution as well.

Brent, thanks for that, I agree now GIMP or Photoshop would be the best option, really struggling to align the colour properly with DSS.

Thanks JJJ, the star colours came out on the second attempt, I was a lot bluer before. I finally used GIMP to to adjust the best I can. At least I can move forward on some images now that I found the best way. The next step modify my camera.
