Takahashi vs Televue diagonals

I am looking into buying a good quality 1.25 diagonal and would be interested in the thoughts of other IIS members as to what they might think is better between the Takahashi 1.25 prisim diagonal vs. a Televue 1.25 Everbrite?

Moreover, is there likely to really be much of a visible difference from either of these diagonals over the usual GSO/WO/Orion diagonals?

there are some plain diagonals & then the 99% di-electric ones from GSo - i would go for these if you choose this option..
WO make some real nice diagonals i have been happy with
- i don't know how much better the TV ones could be - always looked expensive to me
i suppose you can't beat Tak stuff -i think there diagonal is a reasonable price

I have the Tak 2 Inch 1/15 wave Diagonal which has a 1.25 inch adaptor for eyepieces and it is excellent. My WO Diagonal which is brand new and only used twice stays in the case as a spare for an emergency.

Takahashi 1.25 prisim diagonal and Televue 1.25 Everbrite are both top quality products. In this match off it's a question of Prism vs Mirror.

As for the visible difference from either of these diagonals over the usual GSO/WO/Orion diagonals..well that would depend on the quality control of the manufacturing process. Takahashi and Televue have tested exceptional high QC so you are virtually assured a consistantly high quality product.

I think few of us could tell the difference between 97% and 99 % reflectivity. Pay for the name or style............... I personally use Televue and WO but only 2" versions...........I can't tell the difference!

Tele Vue diagonals are one piece construction so heavy eyepieces wont unscrew the barrel from the diagonal as can happen with other brands. This is normally only a problem with heavy eyepieces usually on the 2" diagonals but an item such as a binoviewer could unscrew a 1.25" diagonal.

Not sure how the Tak is made. Also if you want to get the last few photons of light then perhaps an Everbrite is the way to go.

Unfortunately, the TV diagonals still use a screwed-on bottom plate on which the mirror rests, which lends itself to mis-collimation. I like WO's approach to cut the diagonal housing from extruded aluminium, insert the mirror from the side and seal the diagonal with side plates (which have no effect on collimation).

Pump here for Stellarvue. I compared my SV Deluxe 2" to the TV Everbrite
and Tak 2": no contest really. Visually there was a small difference - a very little light scatter in the TV, none in the Stellarvue or Tak.
But the SV was miles ahead in construction. Beautiful fit and finish, better than the Tak and much better than the TV. A fair bit cheaper too ($189US). See the Stellarvue website for details.
Unfortunately you can only get them from the US, but a few places carry them - OPT, Opticsplanet, Anacortes etc. You won't be disappointed!

P.S.: I don't know why I'm so hooked on SV accessories. Stellarvue itself is rubbish to deal with from Australia! Honest to God, the girl I talked to thought we were part of Africa!!!!!

Hi All

I appreciate everyones comments on QC and design but I found the article suggested by Hans (see below in case anyone is interested) particularly interesting and can see that choice of diagonal (Tak prisim vs Televue mirror) is partly a courses for horses issue with respect to matching up the particular diagonal with the specific scope.
