Talking Hello Everyone

Hi Everyone,
Just thought I would introduce myself.
I've been lurking around the forum since I purchased my scope in May, but due to crappy weather & bad health I've not been able to use it.

But last night I felt better, the sky cleared & there was a partial lunar eclipse, so I figured it was a good time to take it for a spin. Unfortunately couldn't see too much with the moon that bright, but was still plenty of fun.
I even managed to get a couple of moon shots by putting my phones camera up against the eyepiece.

Anyway, I hope to get to know you all over the coming months. I'm sure I will have questions about the new scope & would love to take advantage of the Brains Trust you have here!

Regards,
Josh

Thanks for the warm welcome!

@George
I was originally looking at the Celestron NexStar 6 SE, but the place I went to buy it from had a Celestron CPC800 XLT on sale for only a couple of hundred more, so naturally I went home with that

Once my overdraft fully recovers, I will look at accessories, so any suggestions welcome. Though after the weekends outing a Dew Heater is already on order.

Yes, guilty as changed, die-hard Stargate fan here

Some good eyepieces and a barlow lens

maybe a premium wide field eyepiece
(food & nutrition is over rated)

Or some good star maps and planisphere

A good red light torch perhaps

And most of all we have to grow two layers of thick skin (can we class that as an accessory?), one for the cold weather, and the other for a partner who keeps making you feel quilty for spending more time with the scope than with them.

Enjoy! Josh
Suzy.

Hi Suzy,

Eyepieces are definitely on the to buy list, but there are so many to choose from I don't know where to start.

Luckily I'm currently single, so I don't have to worry about alienating anybody, or worry about them finding the credit card bill

Josh, what kind of telescope have you got?

Regarding eye piece information, here are some very informative links from this forum. These links will give you a good idea of what's out there.

Thanks Suzy,

I've got a Celestron CPC 800.

I purchased the Celestron eyepiece kit when I got the scope, but i'm sure there are better options out there, I will give those links a read.
