My new Online Gallery!

Hey guys.

I've implemented myself an online gallery, instead of using the (frustrating) system of getting images on the site I had before. Of course I'm talking about the "Images" link on the website on the left over there <------ for displaying my personal pics.

Now I've chosen to use the Coppermine Photo Gallery, as it was written in PHP and I could integrate it with the look and feel of the site, similar to how it was done for these forums.

Now I can upload my pics straight into the gallery and not have to FTP them anywhere or change anything on the site, and therefore it makes me a happy chappy. You can check it out here:

IceInSpace Images Gallery, or click on the "Images" menu.

I'll be uploading all my pics from our holiday in Victoria in the next few days, so I can finally share some of the great stuff I saw down there.

So please have a look around, navigate through the gallery and see how it works. You click on a thumbnail to get an intermediate version, and click on that to get the full size (if available).

Now for some IIS community stuff, if this gallery works out ok, i'm planning on integrating it further with the forum, where forum members can get their own personal gallery hosted on IIS.. So you can use it to upload and display your own pics! More on that in the future.

Anyway thanks for looking, if you do/did

very impressive mike.

The main thing i am thinking of and I don't want to reinvent the wheel (& i may have to build one if i can't find it) , but it would be great to be able to query the image database. Say, show me all of asimovs pictures. Show me toucam images. show me poor seeing condition images, show me non tracking images.

I know there is a line there that will start to irritate the members when they have to fill out all the details on an image they might upload, but the beauty will be to the beginner, who can see what images can be done with what equipment???

I love your work mike, a great feel for the art of picture taking one might say!!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Dave, your ideas are all good. Unfortunately at this stage, I just don't have time to implement something like that. But it a great idea, a search engine for the images where you can enter values for the fields you're interested in.

As you say, it would only be as good as the information entered and whether people would be bothered is another story. I know in doing my image gallery, at the start I wilfully filled in the Equipment/processing etc fields, and by the end I was over it and just wanted to get the whole lot of images up. But that's just because I was doing a whole lot at once, if you were only uploading 1 at a time as you took them, it wouldn't be much extra work to fill the fields in accurately.

Anyway an image database like that is a good idea, but i'll probably start with just an online gallery for iceinspace members to upload/display their pics and maybe enhancements like that can be made in the future.

Hi Mike

I love your Planetary work!
I haven't done any real planetary shots since I got my 300D.

I have to say though, the Deep Sky section is a bit thin.

Cheers

lol I have to agree with you Tony

I was happy with my 47Tuc shot, at the time

I'm hoping to add to the deepsky section now that i've got a 350D.. though without an accurately tracking mount it'll be short exposures only.

Thanks for the feedback!
