Thumbs up Rating System for 'Buy, Sell, Trade' - Forum

May I suggest the introduction of a rating system similar to Astromart.com. I think that would increase the safety for all of us.

Thanks!

Stephan

I suppose that gives people some confidence for members that are new to the forum....but I'm with Ving.....I respect and trust everyone here and also expect the same for me when I have something up for sale.

If Im selling anything I want the buyer to be happy and get good value for money.

I just sold my mount today with the buyer happy to know he can get a hold of me via the forum for help if needed.

Benifit would be for new members.....so you could say it might be worth it.

yes it is worth a try,

something like
Nigel no friends = 0 star - banished
Gangester 1 star - ripped off
Telstra = 2 stars - speaks well of everything but fails to deliver
Formula 1 = 3 stars - an average rating for an average service
Devondale = 4 stars - above average
Nara - 5 stars - right price right time fast delivery - to be trusted
Subaru - 6 stars - excellent couldnt be happier, above everything wanted speedy delivery
Striker level - buy today gone tomorrow!! LOL

doesn't the minimum time and posts sort of keep the crooks out!

plus we have Ken the rotweiller to come smashing in if someone does the wrong thing.

I do like the simple "family" atmosphere, but that may not always be the case. I trust the main core of guys and girls. If you have been around a while and you post helpful hints for noobies, you get well known.

dunno at the end of the day. Maybe a loss of innocence as IIS gets bigger and bigger!

I agree you only have to look at Plagiarism fiasco in the Yahoo Digital_imaging forum.
I hardly ever go there now, I get just as good info from IIS.

We are not big like Astromart, so I base my judgment on how well known they are, and how much and for how long they have contributed to the IIS community.

You really have to 'remember just one thing', & that is, it's the WWW, we are advertising on. So some safeguards are necessary. You can become too trusting.
Care is needed in all things, especially here.
ptn. For one, my adjustable observing chair photo.!!!!

vBulletin has an inbuilt "reputation" system, but I chose not to use it at the time. Once I upgrade to vB3.5 i'll have another look at the feature and see what it can do, and whether it's worth implementing.

Thanks for the suggestion Stephan.

In the meantime though, David and Geoff are right. We have 2 ways to protect our members right now:

1) The inbuilt rules, not allowing someone to post a for-sale thread unless they've been a member for a month and have made at least 5 posts. This ensures they've made themselves known, and hopefully contributed something to the community in that time.

2) Use you common sense. How long have they been a member for? What have they posted? Is it good value? Does anyone know this person? Do they belong to an astro society? Do your own research and make an informed decision.
