Barlows for viewing only!

I have pretty much decided that I am going to save my hard earned and get a televue 5x for using with my toucam to image the planets at high magnification. I am also looking to get 2 really good (nagler if needs be) eyepieces down the track in say 9mm and 25mm

Now for viewing, i have read the excellent thread on the university optics 2" barlow and highly regard the orion 2x shorty plus. I do have a 2" eyepiece, the Ultra wide 80 degree 30mm. But alas this UO is not being made anymore! I have also read about the advantages of the powermates as opposed to barlows.

There is also the orion shorty (not plus) up for grabs on the buy/sell section for $50.
  1. Am i best to go a 2" barlow like the Orion Barlow deluxe 2x or the Televue Barlow 2.0x powermate and then use my adapter to put in my 1.25" eps?
  2. or stick with 1.25" and go the shorty plus or the televues powermate series @ 1.25"?
  3. How does the orion shorty compare to the orion shorty plus?
Thanks
