The Cosmic Bat - LDN 43

Hey guys, here is my take on The Cosmic Bat (LDN43).

I only stumbled across this target recently and was surprised to learn it’s not a northern hemisphere object. Too often I stumble across cool looking dark nebula, only to discover they're northern objects. But this one? Perfect timing, it was well placed for imaging.

I was shooting M17 at the time when I remembered that I originally planned to shoot this, it just slipped my mind.

I actually had a bit of trouble getting some good time on this but managed 9 hours and 40 minutes over a couple nights. Would like more integration, but ahh yeah, Sydney rain and all...

Got to say, this object really is aptly named! That bat like silhouette is unmistakable. And for once, this seemed fairly easy to process.

Full resolution image here.

Shot with the ASI533MC through my Skywatcher Esprit 100. As always, any feedback is greatly appreciated! Cheers, Jason

Thanks Martin, yeah this one seemed easier to process than my version of the Swan Nebula.

That’s a great image Jason and you’ve done well to grab enough data through the clouds

OK...I'll say it ....Holy flying dust bat, Batman!

An excellent capture of this target, which is growing in popularity recently, for imagers to bag

Not quite what I had in mind but it did start with "holy something and end with Batman.

That's a stunning image Jason. It really gives credence to how these things are named (unlike the constellations, I still can't make out most of those with the stars, light pollution or not).
Hmm, maybe if I stand on my head, I can do that.
