Weather

Anyone else disappointed by the weather? I’ve recently taken back up this hobby from years ago but have more or less put everything on hold while it rains non-stop.

I’m in Sydney, but a lot of the East coast is the same I believe.

I agree it’s extremely disappointing and frustrating
Sorry for more bad news but this trend of cloudy nights on most of the NSW east coast is set to continue for a while yet.
There might be the odd clear half night here and there but generally crap until early March.
The higher than average humidity and converging warm air streams from south east and north west is the culprit. Definitely an unusual weather pattern
I image from Sydney and observe and image from south coast NSW and haven’t used my rigs since the 29th October 2023.
The worst continuous period of cloudy nights since starting the hobby back in 2017.
I’m happy to put up with this weather than have bloody bushfires that’s for sure.
Cheers
Martin

I recently acquired a Powermate 5 times at an amazing price in new condition and was extremely excited to try and capture Jupiter through my little 8 inch Newtonian and actually get something bigger than the regular grain of sand in my images. By the time the weather clears Jupiter probably won't even exist any more.....

I frequently tell my son I should sell everything astronomy related and buy an old motorbike. I can use it when it's cloudy or/and wet and have no problem doing exactly that. I've done trips from Sydney to Melbourne and Brisbane in near enough to non stop rain in years past. It never worried me, I dressed according to the weather and rode in the same manner, according to the conditions.
I really miss motorbikes!

Irony?....the rain caused the water level in the dam to rise and submerge the fire pump...but short term I don't really need it.

The key is not to worry either way.

The rain was so heavy the other night I could not hear my "rain tape" that I play to hear the comforting sound of rain.

On the bright side there are plenty of specimens for the microscopes and I don't need to water the garden.

I like your atitude Alex. Clear skies will come when they come. It's a pity for us all to own such wonderful gear and not be using it though I ended up grabbing a Seestar so that I can at least take the opportunity for some EAA at short notice when the clouds temporarily clear. I'm watching Thursday evening as a possible opportunity this week, and will be filtering the moon out as best I can if it actually comes off.
