Thanks Pat and Adam. Yes, 8" f/5 Newt, but made the mistake of not
going through the subs and ditching the ones with elongated stars.
My eyesight is not what it was, and I often have trouble making out
whether stars are round or not.

Thats a great shot of good old 1365. Fornax has an amazing array of galaxies and 1365 is the crown. Shame about the out of round stars. My mount is starting to bother me with similar issues from time to time and I auto guide.
Great detail in the galaxy and good colour. Thanks for sharing.

These are frames from several sessions about 2 yrs ago. I'm surprised
that DSS was able to align them. Now I've got the mount tracking better again I will have another go at it.

You can use offset filters in photoshop to round the stars off a bit (example attached). With more time you could round them off even more.

I can't find anything called offset filters in PS Tony.

Here's one method to do it:

Instead of using the move tool you can use offset filters:

"filter" "other" "offset" you can then change the horizontal and vertical values until you are happy with it.
If you search "how to fix elongated stars" you will find other similar methods.
