NGC1365 with setup of $1000 from Brisbane City backyard
First picture so please have mercy. I thought I'd share what I can see with a $350 reflector, a EQ3 ($300) and a $330 Canon 1100 and passive tracking (single axis motor) ($100).
I use DSS and Matlab to do some corrections (but i guess I am far from the optimum yet).
Image taken from Brisbane backyard 3km from CBD, so quite polluted. I am amazed I can see even some of the fainter mag 12 galaxies in the lower left corner of the image (Fornax cluster). I think I used 40 subs 15sec at 1600ISO, scope is a Vixen 130.
Thanks! I will check out the other galaxy!
Isn't it amazing we can see 50 million lightyears distant galaxies with such simple equipment? It takes something like the Keck or the Hubble to go to observation horizon 15 billion lightyears away, a mere 300times further.
(of course the light is 300^2 weaker too, which explains the added effort...)
I really wonder how far I can push this in a good location....
