Fornax Panorama

After a quick imaging session on Sunday night, Shooting in the direction of NGC1365 in Fornax, I realised just how many small galaxies exist in the area. This is just a thin strip of the frame I had. Exposure was actually too long at 3 minutes ISO 1600. With a skyglow filter in the image train, the background was still way too bright to get a good stretch. Worth doing again I think. This image is 12 x 3 minutes. Will have another go as soon as weather permits.

Thanks fellas, it's certainly worth giving it some more time and effort to get it refined, but yes I'm happy with the pano style presentation.

Thanks Rick and Simon. I just looked at the full frame image during capture and thought "that would make a nice panorama style shot" and there you have it. Definitely will have another go with a lot more data and shorten the exposure (unless I get a darker night).

Undoubtly . Really, absolutely undoubtly !

Amazing, fantastic, wonderful, impressive ... region !

A small part with 3 different FOV and resolution - Carte du Ciel 3.0 - PGC/Leda catalog - minor magnitude around 19 (any 8" or more with Canon or good CCD can capture easily in a black and clean sky)

You got a good capture BruceG. Be patient to make a beautiful mosaic. Although to well see the faint and little galaxies it will be very big.

Hi Jorge, yes it's a fantastic area for little galaxies. A mosaic is a great idea but I don't know how to make them yet. I am still learning imaging and only just started processing. I am using Gimp to do the final touches but don't know it very well. I will learn though it is a wonderful pass time if you don't let the weather get you down.

Bruce take a look in http://jaggedplanet.com/imerge.html to mosaic program. The best and easiest. Short, light, don't need installation. You have full control of position and amount of images. It is like to play with them.

The problem of mosaic is capture all field, with many photos, with clear sequence to don't be confused when assembling. And mainly, get an equal or similar graphic process of all images to have a smoth transition between them. As I wrote: Be patient !
