Taken during a mid week session this week. I decided to take it easy and use the Canon 6D for wide fields rather that do CCDing through the scope.
This is my longest DSLR exposure to date, comprising a total of 2 hours with 24 x 5 mins subs at ISO800 and 90mm lens. Mostly unguided exposure on a Losmandy mount. I had a laptop crash that stopped the guider early in the exposures. Luckily polar alignment was good.
A larger sized image can be viewed at my Flickr link here:
The 90mm lens' performance is also extremely good... begging the question what lens?
Thanks Peter. Yes it is the best performing lens I have. Pentax 6 x 7 90mm F2.8 The star shapes at the edges of a full frame are very good at F3.2, which is what was used for this image. Even at F2.8 the results are good. At F4 they are as close to perfect as you would want.
Very nice Ted. Pentax 6x7 lenses are great value. I just ordered a 75mm 6 x 7 today after seeing another Milky Way shot. I have the 165 F2.8 which is also sharp corner to corner wide open.
Really lovely wide MW shot Ted and yes clearly a great lens...I used to use 6X7 lenses back in my teens were great for Halleys Comet
Mike
Thanks Mike, I have collected a range of 6X7 but have been remiss in using them - (45mm, 55mm, 90mm, 105mm, 200mm and 400mm)

Greg.
Thanks Greg, the 165mm has escaped my collection, but I keep my eye out for a bargain
That's great! Really puts my paltry efforts on the Antares area to shame. Love the colour balance, the textures of the dark nebulae and the star shapes are good too. Congrats on IOTW
Beautifull work and congrats for iotw, top shelf !
Thanks Bob

Thanks. Andy nothing wrong with your efforts. Things just went smoothly for me with the gear and I got some photons into it.

My project, with broken camera, and all, is just that very region in the top right.
