Nightscapes from IISAC-2014

While the scope was doing it's deep space thing at this years IISAC I headed around the field to shoot some nightscapes with camera and tripod.

I tried a shot across the dam which I'm pretty happy with and others with some star party action in progress. I really like night time shots with telescopes in the foreground and I've had the second image in mind for while. I'm pretty happy with the result, it probably would have been better without the table in the left hand edge but it was necessary for the scope. I thought about clone stamping it out but didn't.

All shots were taken with the Canon 6D with Samyang 14mm F2.8 lens. Processed with Canon's DPP and PS CS4. My Lightroom 5 trial ran out so I couldn't apply the lens profile to the images.

Had heaps of fun at the camp, recommend you check it out one year if you haven't attended before.

Excellent star party shots, I think they capture very nicely why we do what we do

The Milky Way rising over the dam and famous 5 is also an excellent natural looking example, matching quite closely what it looks like to the naked eye and just enhanced enough so as to remain real

Thanks Mike! I'm quite happy with that one. I'd been thinking of that type of scene for a while. Look forward to seeing you next year.

Thanks Mike

I like star party shots very much and have seen a lot of great examples. Maybe its the combination of the equipment and stars that appeals. And, you cant go wrong framing the Milky way over or around those trees, such a great location. Hope to see you there next year

Cheers
