Testing the cheap ebay Canon 50D

Having bought a Canon 50D off ebay for $299 I was not overly confident it would actually take a picture, I had no lens to test it with (I have lots of Nikon and Mamiya lenses) so the first opportunity to test it was couple of nights ago in between clouds and fog I managed to get one shot of M42.

This is a 15 second single exposure with a very rough mount alignment so no guiding, wind blowing on the R200SS

Whilst I acknowledge the image is garbage compared to what is possible, I'm pleased that the Canon seems to work.

I'm lucky to have a nice dark site here in the mountains Laurie (and I am a kilometre closer to the stars than you Sydneyites )

I am really impressed with the Vixen R200SS. I am pulling the Canon apart over Xmas to install a Baader BCF filter and then will get a bit more serious about imaging.

Matt, can you please let us know how your DSLR filter replacemnt goes?
I am interested in this as well.
Are there any instructions posted on doing this and where to get the replacement filter?
Regards.

Just shows how good the Vixen R200SS is Matt. 15 secs, and look at the amount showing already!

I did a 5 min exposure on M42 with the R200SS once. Almost TOO much data!

Hey Lewis, I am really impressed with the R200SS, I didn't have the coma corrector in for that pic. The scope seems to hold collimation extremely well. I am thinking of making some rotating tube rings for it just to keep the focuser easier to get to.
