Google Maps back on iOS!

Finally been waiting for this! It not has built in navigation like on Android.

I refused to use Apple Maps in case I ended up in a lake or something.

Apple Maps has been fantastic for me so far.

But, happy to see Google Maps available again.

I've had no problem with navigation between Sydney and Canberra/Queanbeyan with Apple Maps.

The reaction has not been 100% happy. Why is it iPhone only? It runs on iPad at iPhone size (before doubling).

Looks like a test-the-waters beta to me.

Stefan, you would follow the instructions that closely that you'd drive into a lake?

Apple Maps was ok but it had no idea where Cairns was a month ago. I've downloaded Google Maps and it's great I'm loving the GPS feature too it's excellent!

There is something seriously weird going on with the Google Maps app.

My iPhone 4S was running very, very hot after just 20 minutes of use. My colleague messaged me to say that his phone actually shut down from excessive heat after having issued the temperature warning (this has happened to me before in the middle of summer with the phone sitting on the dashboard in full daylight).

Also, the turn-by-turn navigation is a bit choppy, and, the voiceover is just plain awful. I understand the application is still in beta (just like every other Google product).

In all other aspects, the application is lovely.

I was using it the other day with my mate doing a side-by-side comparison of Apple Maps and Google Maps.

Both were fine but Google had much more detailed roads, etc compared to Apple. Apple seemed fine since it was the only time I used it but I much prefer Google.

I was using apple maps on our road trip H. And there always seemed to be a cloud over where we were driving so I couldn't see land marks.
