Cleaning up the USB drive last night and found some data stashed from a couple weeks ago. Gotta love that!

This was taken when I was working out some bad issues with my flats so had to do a lot of work to remove vignetting and produced a heap of background noise. From memory the guiding was only average. I left the background bright for now till I can work out a way to fix this without creating more noise and loosing the fainter areas of dust. I kind of like the brighter background appearance personally anyways…

Thanks for looking!

Dave,
Great capture showing fine detail in and around the main structure
Dynamic colour too
Calibration frames should help with your background
What Gain setting and temperature do you use on the 2600MC ?
Well done !!
Martin

Thanks Anthony, John, Peter, Martin - much appreciated and I’m glad you liked the result.

Martin- thanks for your comments. I did push the saturation / sharpness a bit but the colour and detail was evident in the raw stack and only needed a little boost. I attempted a star-reduction but was not happy with the result so kept it as is.
This data was taken at gain 100 and processed with flats and bias. I’ve since shifted to only using gain 100 shooting l-extreme filter and everything else on gain 0. The flats taken were very poor and almost useless - but the gradient removal tool in AAP is exceptional. Through some trial and error and advice from these forums I think I’ve improved these flats issues now. Everything is -10 temp.

From the few shots made with this combo so far, it seems I need to get approx 3-4hrs integration to mitigate light pollution noise and get a smoother, darker background. But I’m still really happy with the result nonetheless. Cheers

Looks great - I can see all the detail in the dust clouds.

Thanks Steve. At some stage I’d love to add some more data to help smooth things out and reveal some more of the “jet” that’s emanating. Just happy to get any time outside with this weather tbh! Cheers

Thanks mate much appreciated. Would be so nice to be able to get more than a couple hours of data on any given week…

Really nice image Dave. I love the colours you’ve brought out. Looking forward to seeing how more data reduces noise and improve your image further.
