And Matthew Ludgate with a stunning narrowband image of the LMC in the Galaxies section, and Steven Mohr with his wonderful Flame and Corona Australis images!

Seems that I missed out by thaaaaat much, with my entered image of IC2944 which is remarkably similar to Bogdan's runner-up winning image in the Stars & Nebula section - oh well, there's always next year!

Thanks Peter and Andy,

The only reason I entered this competition was, that I thought the DMA were finished when Canon pulled out of sponsorship.

Anyway I'm very happy with the HC, especially being "beaten" by Goran Strand and last year's overall winner Nicolas Lefaudeux.

One thing though: I'm not very exited by the overall winning image this year. Perhaps I need to see it at full resolution.

If I can produce two decent images this year, then I'll enter both comps again.

Unfortunately while a few from down-under made the shortlist, I think it was only Stefan (and Martin Pugh with a joint entry) who made the final-cut this year.

The fact Stefan made his own optics that took the image is even more remarkable IMHO.

As for the winning image...it's in keeping with the RGO "Arthouse" theme...which the Malin's, shall we say...puts more emphasis on technical accuracy over "interpretation"

BTW ROG's winning image reminded me of my own annular eclipse expedition
some years ago...but I chose to shoot it in h-alpha (attached)
