Paul, Your image is extremely noisy, and would be pretty good without the noise.
You don't mention whether you are using darks, flats, etc: or whether you
use in camera noise reduction. The 1100D has a 1600 ISO sweet spot, and
if I remember correctly, the 1200 does too, so I'm guessing that the 1000D
does as well. It's worth googling to find out. Many other models are 800,
including my 600D. You could improve the noise situation dramatically by taking lots more subs, say another 40 or 50.
