Images from the past few months

I haven't posted for a few months this is what I have been up to. Not able to travel to the observatory for several months due to the Covid situation, I finally managed to get there to do some vital maintenance a couple of weeks ago...I'm hoping to get back there in a couple of weeks to finish off a few things..

I am particularly pleased with the new Kepler4040 on the 17in Planewave, it took a while to get my head around it and is now producing some lovely data. Both M20 and M16 done with this rig

Thanks for looking

Peter Shah

Thank you Peter....the setting up seems to be endless...fine tuning and tweaking. I did do a quick and dirty video tour of the observatory while I was there...

Sensational images Peter. Love the observatory and the resort. An amazing array of high end gear there. The environment looks a lot like parts of NSW Australia and not that different to where my observatory is (except for the massive infrastructure and resort!.

That Andromeda shot is the best I have seen of it.

Greg.

Peter,
Great video , astonishing facility well designed and engineered with equipment to match
Thanks for the links

Greg, I don’t about looking like NSW but the landscape looks a lot like Malta with those low stone walls lining the roads , very Mediterranean ( my wife’s Maltese , we’ve been back many times over the past 15 years )

In Peters video he mentioned that if the site loses power , the system does an automated shutdown to protect everything
If I owned or leased this mega super expensive facility , I’d definitely install a diesel generator with a 5 day main tank and day tank , back up solar charging system , an Emerson full on line UPS and an ATS (automatic transfer switch)
My 2 cents ....

That's an awesome set Peter.
You can tell straight away on the Andromeda shot it's probably taken at a much higher elevation than my northern horizon just above my neighbourg clothes line. Never seen IFN around that galaxy before. Very deep. I also like the colors and contrast in your blue horse head.

To be honest I was quite surprised you can actually see it from your latitude....from what I can find out its not strictly IFN its something called ERE (Extended Red Emission) and is part of a broader bandwidth...who knows its a new one on me too!!

The systems all have their own UPS's including the roof. The power rarely goes off but these protocols are purely to keep the equipment safe...even loss of internet then the roof will close until it detects a reconnection..... better to be safe and waist a few hours of imaging.

+1 to Marc's comment about being able to see more than what we usually pick up (whether that's IFN or ERE). That's remarkable stuff! Really great work here, Peter.
