Venus and Jupiter

Hi all,

here is a featureless Venus from two nights ago and another Jupiter from 1st Sep in good seeing.

I removed as much of the CA (from atmospheric dispersion) as I could from Venus. The blue colour across most of Venus's disk was quite persistent however whereas the red on the brightly lit limb was a relatively narrow arc.
I did see an image of Venus on FB that used a polarising filter and seemed to show some detail. Anyone know much about this method?

The Jupiter image shows a bit more detail than my other image from earlier in the evening. Io is just off the limb and the GRS is disappearing from view round the limb.

Great result Pete. Your Venus is as sharp as one would expect.
I tried it last night right on the dot at sunset so the sky was still blue. From the feed it was very stable both in IR (807nm) and UV. I haven't stacked yet. I have a few polarizing filters but I never tried on Venus. Do you have a link to the pics?

Your Jup shot looks real good. Very nice details.

Excellent images Pete, although both are spot on I do like Jupiter just that bit more.

Thanks for that. So how does it work in practice? You take one video at 0 degrees, then rotate 90, 180, 270?

I really don't know. I guess you would try captures with the polarising filter at different angles until you get one with some detail? I've had a look and I can get a 2" SVBony straight-polarising filter for $16 so at that price it might even be worth a punt even if it turns out to be useless (it's never going to match the detail of the UVenus of course )
