Thanks again for following up the thread and for your astute comments.

I must say that permanently altering the dobs (with the risk of damaging it) doesn't appeal to me. It's only 1 year old and in perfect condition. Perhaps you are right, going for a 10" GSO could be an given option that they sell for $759 (Bintel).

A second option would be to go for a package (10" SW on EQ6 pro goto) available to $2399 at Andrews (the 12" version is $2999, which is attractive, but 21.5 kg on a EQ6 is pushing it). A third option would be to get the C9.25 on a EQ6. A last option would be to get an ED127 apo such as the Hioptics for $1200 on an EQ5. Different scopes, different characterics and use.

My budget is about $3000, which could be stretched a bit if need be.
