Amazing Astro 50D image

Hi all...
Just spotted this M45 (almost unrecognizable!!) on the Central DS site.
Amazing what a cooled DSLR and good lens/mount (and location) can do - inspiring (for me at least!!)

Image Details:
Title: M45 , Location: Áger / Lerida - Spain. Date: 17 October 2009
Outside temperature 1 ºC, Refrigeration temperature -19 ºC
Astro 50d, 4 shots for 20 minutes each at ISO 800. Canon USM 200.
Processed: PixInsight and Maxim DL.

Yep!!
eer.. uuumm, I mean.. Nahh man, nah, you're fully stealth about it all You haven't even been scoping out the Central DS site in your spare time since they were brought up in another thread last week.. You seeing the thermal noise characteristics comparisons between a normal 40D and the cooled 40D with the TEC turned off didn't interest you, and you're not now strongly considering buying a cooled DSLR from what I can discern..

(Read : Yeah dude.. Obvious as all hell... Get into it!! RARR!!)

For such long exposures, how do they stop the stars from saturating? HDR?

the brighter stars in the field are saturated. In any case you could take 10x 30 sec subs at iso400 and use a layer mask to blend those coloured stars in.
