Vela SNR widefield in HDR

I still have to get more data when the Moon is not interfering. This is a combination of colour HDR and NB HDR at only up to eight minute exposures at 800 ISO at f/2.8 with the 300mm F2.8L.

Will give full details when I get more data as this is just an interim image.

Full res 2.6MB

Looks very promising so far.

Great shot, Bert

Just need a bit more stretching to bring out the detail, though...looks a little faint, but you can see it

Nice one Bert, I love that area of the sky, so once the Moon racks off, I expect we can see a master piece, hey, nice shooting.

Thanks Leon. Did you notice the Pencil Neb is S shaped. The other thing I have found is that using a 1250mm Mak to guide a 300mm lens really shows how good the lens is. The mount has been drift aligned with the SN10. If you don't believe me zoom in! After a nights exposures the first frame was only a few pixels different from the last.

I can do up to 32 minute exposures with NB at 800ISO at f/2.8 without blowing out or running out of dynamic range. The fridge is the best thing I ever implemented. These images are impossible in summer with a DSLR with an ambient of above 5C.

Yea I know Bert, I wish I was that clever, I would build one too, It just gets so hot in the summer months when all these nice objects are about.

Gary bottom left just has more Gums. The pencil neb is center left just near that bright star.

You were right Gary the Pencil neb is out of field at bottom right.

Here is what HA for 16x16min at 800 ISO looks like.

Here is a version with more data. The last version had no 16 min data. More data gives an image with less noise.

Full res image 2.3MB
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~cheekyfish/VELA_SNR.jpg

Details
Canon 5DH. Canon300mm F2.8L. EQ6 guided by 1250mm 90mm MAK.

Colour. 10x( 1,2,4 min) at 200ISO,10x2m at 800ISO.
HA 10x(4.8 min) 16x16 min all at 800 ISO
O3 10x(4,8 min) 13x16 min all at 800 ISO

Fridge at -5C for all exposures except for 13x16 min O3 as last night was 24C so settled for -2.5C.

From the seperate tone mapped images made with Easyhdr combined with ImagesPlus
Colour: red to red, green to green, blue to blue.
HA: red to red
O3: green to green, blue to blue.

I am sure more processing would help. With the mosaic I will make sure that all vignetted areas (corners) are well overlapped.

No worries Bert!
New version is very, very nice!
I have been keen to have a go at a bright part of this with the new setup and do a few nights worth and see if I get anything worth processing. Worth a go I reckon even without narrow band filters.
cheers

Thanks Gary in my ignorance I thought there could not be two almost straight bits of edge on nebulosity. This area is all new to me as it is so dim. As I have said before the widefields I attempt to do gives us the the perspective and scale of the images taken at much longer focal lengths that Mike S., Greg B., Peter W., Jase etc produce. What we all do in imaging should be considered as complementary rather than some sort of quasi competition.

Gee that fridge sure works well.
Yes the lens is amazing, tiny sharp stars right to the corners.

You are correct Scott. I have belatedly found out that guiding with a far longer focal length really shows the quality of the lens. The fridge keeps the inherent noise down and a bit more nous with processing helps.

I intend to do a mosaic of this area and then will put up the ful res image.

There is only one other lens that comes close and you have it!
