what does binned*2 mean

I often see comments on photos taken where subs were taken 20 x 10m binned *2 ( 2x).
What does that mean?
Cheers

Binning is when pixels are grouped to form single virtual pixels. The data from all the pixels are added together. In 2x binning 4 pixels (in a square) are used as one. Obviously you reduce resolution but the advantage is that you increase sensitivity.
