Interloper with the Spanish Dancer

I have started collecting data for an image of NGC1566.

I was surprised to see a weirdly coloured yellow/green 'star' in the data & became mildly excited when I couldn't see it in any of the stock images for this object on the net.

A SN search soon pointed to SN2021AEFX discovered on 4th December by Jean-Claude Merlin....missed it by 4 weeks....

Anyway, small low res crop at 50% full size attached here.

Usual RC14 set up with ASI2600MC camera etc..
3hrs total exposure (so far).

The discovery of this SN was on 11th November 2021.

There's a joy of discovery even if you aren't the first.


Supernovas are usually intensely blue-white. No stars, supernova or otherwise, should have a green tinge. Perhaps the image colour balance is slightly off.


Otherwise, congratulations on the galaxy, and congratulations on the serendipidous rediscovery.
