A great read, thanks Scott. I've a few more ideas I can use to tinker with my 8" dob now!

And an included reference to The Blues Brothers - how about that!

The only thing that is incorrect is the part about the amount of thread on the spider arms enabling a dropped diagonal position. To offset the secondary you drop it TOWARDS THE PRIMARY MIRROR, not away from the focuser

offset

Roger,

Thank you for the critical read. However, I meant to describe here the ability - if one wanted to and it isn't really critical I'll admit - perform "full offset" by moving the secondary mirror a bit "away" from the focuser. THis is in addition to moving it toward the primary, which by itself is "partial offset" and is more or less automatically accomplished when you center the secondary mirror under the focuser using a sight-tube. For those that are obsessive about it, there is enough thread in the spider vane mounting bolts to accomodate this full offset option. I did not because I could not fathom any meaningful impact for me, a visual observer, using an Argo to find things....

But upon re-reading it I could have been clearer, I admit.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to make the clarification.

Regards

Scott

And, Roger, by the way, thank you for the good service.

I contacted Bintel by phone on several occasions and have received very good service. You, also, have returned emails in a timely fashioned and provided helpful answers to the questions I posed by email.

Thanks!

Scott
