DSLR Install help

Hoping someone can offer some advice.

Trying to connect Canon 350D to laptop via Shoestring DSUSB cable - can't get it to see the camera when I run DSLR Focus.

Have installed latest camera driver (kinda seemed to work) and installed DSLR Focus 3.3.15.

Using standard 2.5mm? audio cable between camera and shoestring box (light is on)

When I select connect to camera no communication settings are available

Am I missing something simple?

thanks

it all seems to be conspiring against me - keyboard won't work either now, have had to pull out a hideous old one.

But okay, here's what I've got

Computer running XP pro
Canon 350D
a 2.5mm going from camera to shoestring box
usb cable from shoetring to laptop

do I need another cable? I've seen others with two cables...?

driver appears to install okay and dslr Focus is installed fine. At one point the pop up window recognised a camera controller or something similar but now that doesn't seem to appear when I plug it all in.

Bloody frustrating

Hope some kind soul will offer some solution

cheers guys
