Cleaning 350D CCD

Well it looks like i've got dust/smudge on my CCD, as it's showing up int he same spot in several images using 2 different lenses.

What's the best way to clean it?

Try a blow-brush. It's probably only a bit of dust. It's it's grime then I dunno... I probably wouldn't bother.

Must be a 350D thing! I've had my 300D since March 2004 (1.5 yrs) & never touched the sensor. Over 10,000 clicks too! I waiting for the dreaded Error99, which some say is pre-programmed to kick in at about 10,000 shots. So far so good..
Cheers

I'm sure it's nothing to do with the camera, and most likely user error

Thanks for the doco RB and houghy.. Will come up some time soon houghy to borrow your cleaning facilities!

Yeah I don't know Dave, I've noticed it on my 300D when you told me about the brush.

The Cannons do get a good work out.

Anyway can't wait till the 20Da arrives.

I second the blower brush. Dont touch the CCD if you dont have to. Best and cheapest blower I find is an ear puffer or ear syringe from chemists. The large ones blow out a small hurricane and will dislodge any dust. I cleaned someones 300D at Vic South for them using it and they were very happy. I ve used it to clean all my DSLR's for years.

Chris

You have to be more carefull with a DSLR than film as the CMOS sensor gets staticaly charged which acts like a dust magnet. Make sure camera is turned off before opening body cap or taking off a lens.

When I take a lens off no matter how expensivbe the lens is the first cap that goes on is the body cap on the camera.

Chris

Thanks Chris, I haven't been careful about making sure it's turned off so that's something new to do next time i'm changing lenses.

Rather than being enthusiastic about cleaning it and possibly doing damage wouldn't using flat frames take care of most dust problems?

I'm not going to bother taking flat frames for terrestrial stuff, Paul.. Would be a PITA!

For astro stuff i'm sure it would work, though.
