Thoughts on second hand ST-7XME camera

Hi all,

A second hand ST-7XME camera has just appeared in the second hand section.

Could I get some feedback on if it the pixel size in the main chip would be suitable for use with a 10 inch Meade Schmit-Cassigrain tube assembly operating at f 6.3 with a focal reducer.

Many thanks,

Paul Floyd.

Yes, that would be OK, it gives a 1.2 arcsecs/pixel image scale. At f10 would be better at 0.74 arcsecs/pixel though, but quite a small FOV. You should get the free Ron Wodaskis CCD calculator (google it), it shows image scales on a vast range of cams/OTA in a very simple format with image result examples.

There are many other advantages to an ST7 of course, a great solid cam for the price. The ST7 particularly suits long FLs with its largeish 9u pixels.
