Astronomy Weekend Getaway

Hi,

Do any of you know of a reasonably priced astronomy getaway that is dog friendly ? The wife cant handle camping, so it needs at least motel style accom.

We would like to get away to a decent dark site for a weekend, and take our beloved lab. Astronomy at night, walks, etc, during the day. Something with an outside power point handy ? My equipment will drain a power tank quickly.

We live in Western Sydney, so the Megalon Valley sounds good. I've checked out a few places, but cant quite find what I want.

Cheers,

Doc

Hello,

I have found some nice places around Numeralla/Countegany, and between stayz and airbnb you can normally find something suitable.

Not sure about your budget, but if it can go to $150 a night, you can get some nice places in and around Bega. Yasuragi Cabins on stayz would be a good example. Nice Height, good dark area and close to Sapphire Coast tourist traps.

I would try "Farm stay" options in the holiday accommodation options and go from there. When used with a dark sky map you can find some nice places that still allow for day trips to good local attractions.

Steve
Ps. Some offer both cabins and powered/unpowered camp sites etc, but you are at risk of other campers and their bonfires/bad habits etc if they offer too many sites.
