NGC 253: Sculptor Galaxy

First proper crack at a deep sky object with my new gear:
  • EQ6r pro
  • ZWO asi1600mm cool
  • GSO RC8 Carbon
  • ZWO asi120MM mini and OAG
No RGB for now, still trying to get my workflow sorted before introducing more challenges. I think my exposures may have been too long for my seeing or perhaps my gain was too high. Taken from a bortle 5 zone. I have very limited night sky visibility from the deck so that added some additional challenges. I also struggled to get phd2 to maintain its guide star. Also a strip along the bottom of the image was significantly darker than the rest of the image and had to be cropped out.

  • 14x80s light @-10C Gain 100 (18.6 minutes integration)
  • 10x80s dark @-10C Gain 100
  • Flats introduced a weird bump where a dust spot was, need to clean the sensor.
  • Bias. Didnt use as I got some weird vertical banding noise after including them.
Looking forward to doing some longer integrations when my setup workflow speed is increased.

Very cool. That's shaping up to be a great shot.
That should be in the deep space section.

Good one Matt

A lot better than my first attempt.

Look forward to seeing the other filters!

Well done

Providing that your darks match your lights, biases are unnecessary.
