Thank you all very much.
The reason for putting it off was the anethiest is concerned about my restricted air way and this morning I received a call from the hospital asking me to attend for some three hours so they can better assess my condition. This makes me happy as there was a little part of me thinking I was just being put to the end of the line...so the call from the hospital re tomorrows examination takes away that fear.
The surgeon also said that now the hospital will not cost anything..not that money was an issue but it will save some cash.
I don't know why they are worried if they can't use general anesthetic they could just go with local I would promise not to talk during the opperation.
Fortunately I have got some sleep which has been denied me for over a week, but I just don't feel like eating....and I just can't get motivated to do a single thing.
Thanks again folks...I have not told my family other than my x and my daughter as I can't handle going thru my story over and over...not nice but it is me that I am trying to hold together and can't be worried if folk get upset being kept in the dark.
I think my condition arose from having to wear a neck tie day in day out for 33 years.
Alex

Long op.

Thiroid 10 times normal size...dead by choke hold in two weeks given growth rate apparently.

Wont know much what to do with lung until they work out the nasty bit, but I have a Darth Vadar voice..tracky in.. and small prospect of retaining speech apparently...cheers from all.
Will be in intensive care until Monday....but I feel just so good cause the suffering of the last two weeks has stopped..It was so bad.
Absolutely fantastic hospital and the people are wonderful...food it great you dont have to chew it..so efficient.

Alex

Thanks Ron.

Today the non stop flow of spit etc eased, it was most unpleasant feeling as if you are drowning in the stuff.....every fifteen minutes they drain you..chewing broken glass would be more fun..there is this time where you feel this is your last breath....every fifteen minutes....they took out two drains in my neck today, and I managed to swallow some water and quarter of panadol...a real big deal...I have had a few "baths" and today the nurse gave me a shave and a hair shampoo...also I was able to get out of bed and sit in a chair. The girls visited.

As I understand it I still have my vocals but will need permanent calcium and stuff usually generated by the thiroid.

So far so good....

It all turns on what is in/on my lung....

But I feel happy and even if the news turns out real bad I will remain happy because I did all I set out to do with my astro and microscopes set up...and at least got to use it a little before the rain set in....

My message..don't put off your dreams.

Alex
