ASIAir without Main Camera. Guider Only. Will it still work?

Calling ASIAir (standard or Pro) users..

Could anyone please confirm if the unit can be used for Guiding only?

My intention is to not connect a Main camera to it at all, and to only connect a ZWO ASI120MM-S camera to the unit as a Guide camera.

Im hoping that I can progress to the auto-guiding section within the software without having to enter a 'Main' camera on the first screen.. or will it stop me there completely?

(Using a non-supported DSLR is the reason why... but still want laptop free auto-guiding).

Thanks!

Lol, so I don't have the ASIAir. That's a screenshot of a YouTube video. I'm looking at buying one, but don't want to buy it if it needs a main camera to function.

Check on the ASI website but I'm pretty sure you only need one of their guiders to work with ASIair. You can independently use any DSLR as the imaging camera or nothing at all.

Hi Emuhead.

Yes the ASIair does work in guide only setup. I also use an unsupported DSLR for imaging and I have used the ASIair coupled with a 120mm mini for guiding with great success.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me as I totally agree the instuctions are very vague.

Cheers

Ryan
