This thread came up on a search when I was trying to get some advice on Chroma 3nm/5nm filters. I've been having issues with haloes with the new Baader CMOS filters, and I subsequently bought a 3nm Oiii Chroma filter. I have been unsure whether to buy the 3nm or 5nm Ha filter.

You have wondered if the ability of Chromas or Astrodons to control haloes is down to the quality of the glass. If that was the case, then I'd expect the new Baader CMOS filters to work equally well. On my LZOS APM/Riccardi 0.75 reducer I have absolutely no haloes with my new Chroma Oii filter, but significant haloes with my new Baader CMOS Oiii filter.

I actually still own an ED80/SW 0.85x FR/FF so I could try out a test with my Chroma on that sometime in the future. My friend uses an ED80 with the Baader filters and gets a halo in Ha and Oiii, so I'd expect the Chroma to also remove this. I'd say Chromas ability to remove haloes is entirely a result of the filter itself.

As it happens, I ended up buying the current generation of Atronomiks in 36mm "Unmounted" (Which are actually fitted in to a blackened aluminium mounting ring so the concerns earlier in this thread about mounting 1mm thick filters no longer apply) as an LRGB-HA-Oiii-Sii set, 6nm for all the NB filters. I am yet to see a noticeable halo on any filter via either my 80mm refractor or 10"F4 newt, though I have not had a chance yet to give the Sii a proper run as it was the last filter I bought and I just have not yet hit a target with any meaningful Sii signal.

If I had the handy cash to buy another mono camera to replace my ASI2600MC I would probably buy another set the same.

I’m contemplating going Mono mid to late 2022 specifically for my Dome ( Bortle 3 skies ) on the South Coast if the minister of finance will approve funds
I’ve been looking at the Astronomik LRGB 2” type 2C mounted filters and the Astronomik 6nm NB mounted filters Ha Oiii Sii
Camera will be a no brainer, 2600MM ( I’ve had my 2600MC for 18 months )
Filter wheel would be a ZWO 5 x 2” EFW
A new EQ8-R mount is also on the cards to replace the EQ6-R mount
Hopefully it all comes to fruition
