New LUNT 40mm H alpha scope

Hmmm, Lunt dumped their 35mm H alpha scope, had the 50mm and 60mm scopes available, but now gone for a 40mm, full sized external H alpha etalon scope.

At just less than us$700 for the BF600 version I assume this will squeeze the Coronado PST market...

They're gearing up for the coming maximum with an entry level(price wise) scope and full aperture etalon. Seems reasonably priced.

Assuming this is an improvement on the already good 35THa, whose g'n'g performance I've been enjoying for years now, this might be a very good deal indeed. Looks like they added an non rotating helical focuser - nice. A bit more back focus than the 35 would be handy too. STill debating whether to chop the tube on mine.

The external 40mm etalon, in my experience is better than a 20mm internal etalon.

Obviously similar to the Coronado SM40, which they have discontinued....

That one had the Coronado-typical central obstruction though didn't it?

Yes, it did.
(All the current "RichView" Coronado designs have a 12mm central obstruction)

Lunt 40mm

I picked one of these up a week ago with the B500, I think it's amazing for the price, build quality puts most other manufacturers to shame. Future upgrades to the 40mm are possible i.e. feather touch focuser and a double stack unit. I haven't had much time with this scope due to poor weather and seeing but it is a joy to use. The closer view is with a 2x power mate but through clouds so not great in terms of focus.

Great images.
Glad that you have found the scope to be so good.

This deferred gratification sucks. Really looking forward to it arriving. Hopefully some time next week.

I have the Coronado SM40 (pre-Meade) solar telescope and it has Etalon with adjustment at the front. The new 40mm Lunt solar telescope looks very similar.

Once it arrives, hopefully you don't then have a month of rain
