Mars Occulted in Australia 5.30am New Years Day!

I have never seem Mars occulted by the moon so it was great to catch up with this event. I found this imaging a bit hard as Mars was moving fast relative to the moon and daylight and low altitude created difficulties. Images taken at f10 with ZWO 485mc on Celestron C8 on EVO.

Thanks Ross, they are good images with the Moon being so low to the horizon at the time. I was too far north, but saw Mars close beside the Moon just before 5am.

Great result and thanks for sharing. I was all set up to image this event but was thwarted by an unusual coastal fog rolling in at the last minute..

Thanks Gerard, Bob, Steve and Dennis. Yes I was lucky having clear skies given I have been so often thwarted by cloud and being in the right location.

Bob I notice that the Northern-Hemi astrofolk were talking about a bigger Mars occultation event at the end of this year...perhaps you are in position to catch that one?

Thanks Marc...just wish the Martian disc at the time was not around the size of Uranus so I could have caught some detail..um no I do not mean that as a personal comment
