Dsi Vs Lpi

I can’t take a decision which one to by. I want something that can get good pictures of planets and Deep Sky Objects. I don’t know if Meade DSI can take good pictures of planets and also I don’t know if Meade LPI can get good pictures of Deep Sky Objects. I have a Meade ETX-125AT w/UHTC. Give your opinion please.

Just playing with my LPI now for the first time (came with scope). Using an Lx200GPS. Pondering getting a DSI....

Hi

I see you have a 125mm aperture 'scope, which is probably too small an aperture for DSO images with the LPI. I have a 102mm refractor and with the 16 sec max exposure of the LPI, even the Jewel Box and the Pleiades are difficult to capture. I have tried M42 and M8 and it just was not worth the effort.

The LPI is brilliant on Planets, the Moon and brighter double stars. I have not tried the DSI so I cannot comment, although I have read posts on the Autostarsuite Yahoo Group that owners of both the DSI and LPI still favour the LPI for Lunar and Planetary. I guess the name says it all - Lunar & Planetary Imager?

Cheers

Dennis

This is a bit of an old thread, he also posted in the Equip section and there's more responses there:

There's a Yahoo group dedicated to LPI if you're interested...
