Alluna RC16

I have to say I'm getting excited about the new 'scope which should be arriving next month (my apologies in advance for the cloud/rain/snow/sleet etc. that will surely follow )

Some test data arrived in my inbox recently, CCD inspector seems pretty happy, and the correction to the extreme edges of a 35mm frame looks great.

Max FWHM of 1.5" on a 16" scope.... is such a thing even possible?! Hell, I'm excited for you, Peter... as long as you keep all that nasty weather below the border ;-)

Great news Peter, and the graphs from CCD Inspector look perfect.

We will forgive you bad weather if you share with us the photos of your new scope once you get it

What mountain top did they test that on?

Looks impressive nonetheless.

Gee low FWHM. Impressive. Also an extremely flat field.

Greg.

Greg.
I had to rub my eyes a couple of times when the CCD inspector calculations
popped up.

But as a "gross error check" I looked at the field star image (the focal length is around 3400mm with the FFC), yet the stellar profiles look like the data was captured at about half that focal length. Pretty amazing.

I suspect it will be a very sweet galaxy imaging machine

I've had to keep this under wraps until all testing was complete....

....Alluna recently informed me my scope will be delivered with the new TCS2 control system.

It allows full control of all systems without a PC for those times when you actually just want to look through the 'scope

Roll on September

Very exciting Peter! Nothing to complain about there!!! How about NGC 253 as your first light target?

Hmm nice bells and whistles.

Temperature control looks interesting. How does it regulate the temperature of the optics? Aside from fans. Is there some active cooling? TEC's?

Yeah 253, I would be interested in seeing how good the optics perform.

Yep...could be tempted....but your 253 act is a *very* hard one to follow

P.S.
Anyone going to Greenwich? Say around mid September???

I'm planning on having cocktails at zero degrees longitude, on the 17th, but purely as an interested bystander

The devil is indeed, getting the details (Aka bells and whistles) right

But no TE cooling (I think that could be bad)....

NGC253....humm...unlike Eta, hasn't that been done already

The Alluna has landed

Well, with the Pacific Peso in free fall, the final price was a little breathtaking....but the Alluna has finally landed in Oz.

Unfortunately I'll be away with the courier delivers the ...wait for it....129kg crate tomorrow.

More happy snaps to be posted on Monday.
