Wow, I have both an A7R and A7S, and have never seen that number of hot pixels! Maybe a couple of hot pixels visible every once in a while but after I have the camera map and remove them I have none.

Here's an example of through the scope video - ISS/Moon transit. I pushed the cam to the limit ... 1/2500, iso 6400, 60 fps, f/10, 2000 mm. Shot in APS-C mode @ 1920x1080 video which is sharper than full frame, almost as sharp as 1:1 pixel.
Great capture!

And my analysis of A7S vs. A7R/A7 II noise in PixInsight shows the A7S to be about 5x cleaner at the same ISO; 2+ stops of advantage. This really counts in astro-imaging! It is about 4x cleaner than the Canon 6D. Which means the 6D is a touch better than the A7R/A7/A7 II...

Really important to find someone with a very clean environment or you can end up with dust specks; not something you want!

Life Pixel has a clean room environment and specializes in IR and full spectrum camera mods. They've modified both my A7R and A7S to full spectrum with excellent results. They are located in Washington, USA; just below BC, Canada on the west coast.

Good luck!

What type of mod are you planning to have done?

Are you only going to use the camera for astrophotography? IR? Daytime?

Do you want to retain autofocus? Sonic cleaning?

Just curious?

Brian at this stage it will be for astro only as I have all the Nikon gear for general photography, and I will let Mike advise me on what mod he will do.
But I have no idea when the camera will arrive as there are no stocks in Australia

Resale value, if you ever intend to sell it, is a touch higher if autofocus and sonic cleaning are retained in the mod.

You might also wish to throw a Nikon lens on the camera with an adapter and a Kolari Color Correction filter for low light daytime photography. I'm sure you're going to use some of that great Nikon glass for astrophotography?

I know the A7S has been selling well but there are still A7S's sitting on camera store shelves in Canada (and I think the USA).

Where did you get it from? On Ebay the lowest price seems to be around $2200.

Greg.

First one turned up and surprised to see they supplied 2 batteries although I have heard they suck up the current.

That's good to know, I've read that if you get 60 to 90 minutes your lucky.

Pretty good for the Sony A7 series but it all depends what you're doing. The electronic viewfinder uses a lot of power, so if it is off you'll gain an hour or so. It has been said the WiFi also chomps up power, not sure if this is the case?

I've never run a battery totally dead yet and get about 3 hours per run before I get nervous and drop in a fresh battery. I normally change out at about the 20-25% mark...

My 2 A7s cameras arrived and I sent one to America to be Astro modded and got an email this morning to say it will be heading back to me this Tuesday.

I also got a circular fishere and sorry I did, it gives a circular image sure but it only gives you a image of about a 20c piece on a sticky notepad, so I have to crop top and sides to get a reasonable image.

Why would you crop it? It is a "fisheye" image!

I have 6.5mm and 8mm fisheyes; love them:
