yes, slog2 is excellent when shooting into the moon during widefield moonlit video. The moon is a nice round ball without the usual blooming.

I tried some HDR during the Oct 10 Lunar Eclipse. This is where the electronic shutter came in handy. Usually taking 3 shots in quick succession causes noticable blurring due to shutter shake. Attached is a 3 frame HDR blend with sliver of sunlit moon plus stars. 400mm cropped.

Sensational shots Colin.

I can see the advantage there. Super. That camera is high on my DSLR wishlist. Perhaps if they bring out an A7s Mark 11 with built in IBIS like the A711 it would seal the deal!

Greg.

Here's an example of through the scope video - ISS/Moon transit. I pushed the cam to the limit ... 1/2500, iso 6400, 60 fps, f/10, 2000 mm. Shot in APS-C mode @ 1920x1080 video which is sharper than full frame, almost as sharp as 1:1 pixel.

Any updates on the A7s, I'm thinking of getting one or the A7-11, not sure which one to get.

I got a SkyWatcher Star Adventurer mount last week off Bintel to mount it to, but still need to decide on the camera.

Hmmm which one.

Check out my blog for any updates. To me it's a no brainer. I've also heard from a birdie that a couple of Aussies have ordered a modded version like mine.

Oh, and don't confuse the A7s with the 7II. Only the S has the larger sensor pixels needed for good astro pics.

So where have they ordered a mod version from and what's the mod you are referring to.

I will be ordering the A7s on Tuesday when I get home from holidays.

Funny I can get a better price in townsville than Bris/Syd/Mel/eBay.

FYI these are only $1418 new at the moment:
http://www.digidirect.com.au/slr_cam...ss_camera_body

What are you going to use it for? astro?

One thing I would note is the lenses for the Sonys are quite pricey. I'm sure they're excellent quality but, coming from a Canon, I was surprised how much more they were when I looked into getting an A7S a couple of months ago.

EDIT: looks like there's an A7 mkII which would explain the cheap(er) price I posted above.

I have a NEX-5 so all the adapters for pentax lenses, even batteries and AC power adapters are the same I think. Talked to a mate and apparently these are obsolete now the Mk II is out.
Likely to use it at prime focus on the scope for moon shots, comets, etc...

I also thought it was the same as the A7s discussed in this thread which has an insanely low noise at high ISO. This one seems to be quite different.

I'm wondering if I should wait instead and get a A7s later down the road.

I am pretty sure the A7 doesn't have bulb mode, the A7-11 and the A7s have bulb mode

I bought a A7s a few months ago when Sony was offering a good deal with a cashback and yet have not had any chance to test it.

Regarding a modified and cooled version of A7s, you can get it from central DS at http://www.centralds.net/cam/?p=7911 or purchase it directly from this page
http://www.centralds.net/cam/?produc...-cooled-camera

I'd wish I would not rush buying a new one as a cooled one looks much better.

Does anybody know anyone locally who can at least remove a filter?

Hi mike

I got my dslr done at Camera Clinic in Melbourne some time ago, but you might want to check their prices - it may be beneficial going o/s for the work ...
