Unexpectedly it was clear last night over Newcastle with cloud all around but here So did some imagine, chose planetary nebula Shapley 1 in Norma. Its possible to fit in a much fainter and slightly larger planetary called VBRC7 which I see seldom done.
Image is 11 x 15 minutes ISO 800 with Baader UHCS filter and 10 inch f5.6 newtonian. EOS Ra. I was still able to find suitable guide stars even though the guider looks through the filter, but the coma corrector ensures nice sharp guide stars.
Great shot of one of the most intriguing of the planetaries Scott and getting VBRC7 in as well is a bit of a bonus for a Novocastrian shooter, well done . In a really deep shot of Sp1, an outer envelope and a very faint bow shock front reveals itself. I captured the bow shock in mid 2017 and thought I had made another discovery ...only to realise it had been first referenced in a paper on Sp1 as recently as just Nov 2011, so pretty recently, damn! missed by thaaat much 99
Thanks Mike. I went and had a good look at your incredibly deep and detailed shot. Yes I can see the bow shock on one side of that well captured halo.
Gee we've come a long way from those old days of using hypersensitized film and waiting days for the results which we thought great for the time but nothing compared to what modern digital equipment can capture.
