Running Chicken

Hi everyone......

so....

I have a mate in Sydney, Bortle 6 sky....

I have been helping with astronomy for about 21 years....

Yep....its been a long slow journey, but one full of adventure and discovery.

Late last year he upgraded some of his equipment.

He now has retired and has time to turn his hand at astro-photography.

Though he images......he does not go online nor not process his work.

He sends me texts and asks me to do something with them.

I finally convinced him to send me an email with a file or two.

He sent some jpgs.

This was from early tonight 28.04.21.

Full moon, Bortle 6 sky.

I give you .....as he puts it...`our` results.

Running Chicken nebula

Details as follows:

8 inch RASA

ASI ZWO 183 Pro

58x30 seconds

Celestron CLS filter

Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro

Unguided

Processed in Nebula V4

Yep......I can see the Running Chicken !!

Thanks for looking,

Paul.

That's very nice of you to help your mate Paul.

Ask if he has the linear fits files, they process a lot better.

At least you will have control over the stretching.

You still need to crop out the edges.

Good collaboration you two

Thanks Peter,

Yes I know FITS files are best, however they are large
and he has no way of getting them to me.

As for the artifacts and cropping, I tend to leave them in.

He only asked me about them on this image.

I thought it was a touch over processed,
however he was happy, and you can certainly
make out the chicken.

Thanks again,

Paul

Unfortunately it's all uphill shooting in JPEG. You lose a massive amount of data as it clips your dynamic range both ends. FITS zip quite well in my experience ~50% reduction in size. It's well worth your time shooting in a format where you get all the data.

Marc,
yes he shoots in FITS, and has tried to zip the files.

It will be a matter of getting the data onto a usb stick or such.

I just do what I do to help and encourage, it also allows me
to try my hand at data I don't have.

Paul.

Ps here's a more subtle attempt.
