Canon 350D Camera Control Software and cables

I recently acquired MaxDSLR and Im wondering what equipment I need for the camera.
My understanding is I need a Camera release serial cable plus the USB cable?
can anyone recommend places of purchase if these are required?

Does MaxDSLR also remove the need for an Angle finder for the camera also.

Help much appreciated.

Thanks

You can get a serial cable release from Shoestring Astronomy (or if you are handy with a soldering iron you could make one) and you can get a Serial to USB adapter from DS, Tandy, Jaycar etc.

What do you mean by "Angle Finder"?

Canon right -angle finder.

I got Max DSLR working. Had to set the camera to PC Connection mode
Guess I dont even need the cable release cable now. Sweet.

With the camera set to PC connection mode, and plugged into computer via miniusb, I can now set the camera to higher than 30sec shots on the camera. Joy.

So MaxDSLR can only take flats, bias, darks, and lights. More reading to do! Im excited!

Guess I was wrong. Seems 30secs is the max.
Gonna have to get one of those cables then.

Would there be any aussie suppliers with the DSUSB and cable?

I'm not sure about the cable, but I'm sure if you posted a wanted at in IceTraders for someone to make you one you would have a pretty good chance of success of getting a cable made.

Re the Angle Finder. Maxim should do a better job of focusing than the angle finder, though the AF would make it easier to find the object rather than sitting on the ground under the camera finder

Dennis is focused on his crusade for 'perfect focus'.
Even though I like my Right Angle Finder, I'm going to make one of these focus masks he talks about.
Check it out.

I purchased a DSUSB plus cable and extension, as well as an extension for my GPUSB from Shoestring. Top service I must say! Doug was quick on the replies and was very helpful

Woohoo, long exposure time is nearing, very excited.

Paul, did you mean MaximDL ? I'll check this out tonight.

Andrew, thanks! Looks very interesting.

Cant go past the right angle finders for canon SLR's... They also magnify the viewfinder view which makes focusing by eye that little bit easier... Although using Maxim's focus routine would have to give better results at the end of the day.
