Video base plate adapter

Hi,

I have an 80mm scope which I use for a goto scope for sky and terrestrial use.
I plonk it on a video camera head which has the 1/4 3/8 screw base plate to secure a camera.

The mount for my scope is your every day garden variety dovetail plate. When attached, the 1/4 thread video cam base plate that I use to screw to the dovetail base plate to the scope gets loose.

So it's just hanging on by the 1/4 thread screw, it comes loose over time, worried my scope is going to fall off.

I've done many searches but can't with confidence buy an adapter that is more secure.

So is there anyone out there who can recommend a secure adapter plate that will take a dovetail plate and then fit a camera / video head.

Cheers

O

Hi Michael,

A picture of the tripod head, base plate and scope base might help, BUT in the mean time I would try using a thin cork or rubber sheet (~1-2mm thick) between the scope base and base plate and then tighten well. This should stop the thread from loosening. It would be better if you could restrain any rotation in the plate by possibly modifying the plate or scope base with a 2nd locking/restraining feature.

If it really bothers you could try some thread locking compound or tiny spot of nail polish to lock the thread, but obviously the are difficulties with any disassembly.

Best
JA
