Rare Earth Minerals

There is an article from the ABC News about mining rare earth minerals around Dubbo, this is to compete against the monopoly that China has.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/rural/20...-nsw/100150022

My purpose for posting is the attached image of these minerals, half of them I had never heard of before.

The article says:

Quote:
Australian Strategic Materials has a licence to mine rare earths at a site south of Dubbo that contains zirconium, niobium and hafnium.
Neither of those are rare earth metals. Am I missing something?

Hi Bill
We have at least one company involved in rare earth stuff..Lynas..seems like a good show and one that one could probably do ok investing in if the wind blows the right way... they are producing but not paying any dividend..but they are more than a company with only plans to mine...I think they are moving their refinery operation to Australia due to pressure from environmental protests in the country where they process now.

The article definitely talks about rare earth metals, I just don’t see what it has to do with a zirconium/niobium/hafnium mine. Perhaps they also found rare earth metals there, beside those three?

At least some of the elements in the diagram are rare earths .such as yttrium and neodymium and europium and lanthanum although the article does not mention these it does mention scandium which is kinda close.

https://www.ga.gov.au/data-pubs/data...nt/rare-earths

The rare earth elements (REE) are a group of 17 metals that comprise the lanthanide series of elements lanthanum (La), cerium (Ce), praseodymium (Pr), neodymium (Nd), promethium (Pm), samarium (Sm), europium (Eu), gadolinium (Gd), terbium (Tb), dysprosium (Dy), holmium (Ho), erbium (Er), thulium (Tm), ytterbium (Yb) and lutetium (Lu) in addition to scandium (Sc) and yttrium (Y), which show similar physical and chemical properties to the lanthanides. Rare earth elements are a relatively abundant group of elements
