ST-8300C and Canon Lens Adaptor

I am looking suggestions for where I can get an adaptor that can connect canon lenses from 300D to a Sbig St-8300C.

Peter Lee may be able to help. Send him an email and ask him if he can fashion an ST-8300 to Canon EOS EF adapter.

Why not just use the ones designed for the job?

http://www.sbig.com/sbwhtmls/online.htm

10064 Camera Lens Adapter $119 35mm Camera lens adapter (Specify Canon FD, Nikon) for ST-8300 cameras with filter wheel.

CLA7-8300 Camera Lens Adapter $165 35mm Camera lens adapter (Specify Canon FD, Nikon) for ST-8300 cameras without filter wheel.

Woops, didn't realise SBIG made them!

I was going on the assumption that they didn't make them, like the STL -- just the Nikon adapter. : (

I had Peter send me one over for less than a quarter of the price that SoCalAstro were asking.

I found the reference on the SBIG site on the Price page, and another reference where only the Nikon is mentioned. Also I email Peter Ward a couple days ago where he said only the Nikon adaptor is currently supported.

It may pay to contact SBIG direct as agents don't always know what is available.

Hans,

That's an FD lens-only connector. Not many people use them as it's all EF nowadays.

Hi Brendan

Try Stellar Technologies in the US.

Note the following from the ST site:

“Wide-field adapters must be specially designed to guarantee that infinity focus will be reached on the camera chip. This requires that the backfocus distance of the lenses and the backfocus distance of the particular camera be taken into consideration in the design of the adapter”.

Cheers

Dennis

PS – if you want one urgently, I have one that you can borrow until you can buy one

Thanks for that Dennis, I've just ordered one. Here was me thinking I had just bought everything I could possibly ever want while the dollar was high. Silly me!

SBIG announced at AIC that they are just about to release Canon EOS adapters for the ST8300 with or without filter wheel.

FWIW

EOS lens adapter rumor vs facts...

Canon *EOS* lens adapters have never been available from SBIG, only FD versions, which virtually no-one uses these days.

There will be a Canon EOS/ ST8300 (mono version) adapter released within a couple of weeks...it needs to be used with the FW8300. Price TBA.

The ST8300 colour version (ie Brendan's) is a bit further away. My best estimate is first quarter 2011.

Hi

I just received my ST8300C with Baader 2"/T2 nosepiece threaded for 2" filters.I will be using the IDAS LPS 2" filter for imaging with the telescope in a light pollution area.

I also want to use with EOS lense for wide field imaging.

Has someone here used the SBIG Camera adapters EOS Lens adapter for ST-8300 Cameras and whether the LPS filters can also be use. Not so clear on this although a mention of a spacer in lieu of filter wheel.

Waiting for clear skies.

cheers

Hi

The spacer required for the ST8300C is not yet available, I have been in touch with SBIG about this and have expressed my displeasure after I was assured that the Canon EOS Adapter would fit either the C or M models. The last email I got from SBIG stated the adapter would be available two weeks ago, they have refused to answer my emails since.

Really quite annoyed, a better solution would be from PreciseParts or Hutech.

Cheers

What spacer do you speak of John ?

The adaptor is available now

http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?...-327-328-16311

Is something else needed ?

Also be good to know what part is needed to add 2" filter like IDAS LPS to this setup.

Hi Chris

Been a long time .

The adapter shown in the OPT page requires a spacer to get the correct Lens to Camera distance. The actual EOS connection piece, as shown, is available and will fit the ST8300M WITH the Filter Wheel, if you are using the ST8300C, that spacer is not yet available, contary to SBIG's own advertisments, there is no way of fitting the adapter as yet. There are no screws or other parts supplied with the adapter as shown on the OPT page.

Information I got back from OPT a couple of days ago was that there is still no date for the release of the spacer so I have a completely useless EOS adapter until the spacer arrives.

Cheers

Yeah has been a long time. Excited to get back into things.

Ok thanks. That is annoying for sure and misleading marketing as no where does it say you need another spacer.

Any idea how you would also use your ST-8300c with this adaptor and filters like 2 inch idas .
