Geoptik Nadirus 12” Kit

Hi All.
Does anyone have any experience with the Geoptik Nadirus 12” truss dobsonian kit sold by Testar in Sydney. I am looking for any comments on quality and performance.

Thanks in advance.

CN has a post

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/7...-modification/

You won't find a kit that someone doesn't say needs changing... but the mirror cell movement is a little concerning...

Thanks Steve. You are right in that pretty much any kit will have its issues. I have read that thread in CN. I have scoured the net and that is pretty much the only feedback I have found. I am also after any other comments about the stability of the whole unit once set up, movement in both axis, build quality, truss-UTA connectors etc etc.

Yes I have that kit and loved it. Since I'm using it for a 10" f6 mirror I have to modify the cell anyway. I'm getting 400x-500x razor sharp images regularly on Saturn and Jupiter with the Cassini division as sharp as day and night compared to the A and B rings (I thought I can see glimpses of Encke's gap as well last Saturday evening at 430x). At these magnifications you do need to get some kind of tracking platform which is my next project. There is no issue with hand tracking at 300x and below mags.

In short, I won't hesitate to recommend this kit for your premium mirrors (mine is John Lightholder's certified 1/18th PTV primary and 1/30th wave Antares secondary)

I'm in the middle of modding my Geoptik 12" kit.

I'll post images when finished, hopefully soon.

Benn, we spoke on CN, I will get back to you.

Changes have been made by Geoptik. The mirror cell is a lot better.
I added velcro tabs over the cork pads. This has stabilised the mirror movements (whilst allowing expansion & contraction) the same mirror was from my 12"LB.
The other necessary change is for stiffer springs.

Thanks for joining in John and Arief. Yes John I look forward to continuing our discussion. Your mod certainly looks doable. If anyone converting a Lightbridge to this has traveled the typical journey with the Meade base and it’s issues, they will already has a few beefed up collimating springs laying around already.
I am excited by this kit as if it performs ok it will fit a few ideas I had in mind for something I was going to make myself. It will just save me a heap of time and tinkering. Holding collimation is a curiosity that I need to satisfy as well as how the bearings perform and if they will diminish quickly over time (they look like Teflon in ply?).
I look forward to a few more pics and comments.
